Luxury Beauty - Chanel

Today’s post is a collaboration with my Sister Rachel. A girl could only dream of owning this much Chanel, so we thought we’d put our collections together and review all of the products we currently own / have owned and share our thoughts with you…….

Vitalumiere Aqua Liquid Foundation (B10)

Amy says – beautifully light in texture, giving that ‘my skin but better’ look, this foundation is something I’ve had to learn to love as at first I wasn’t taken by this at all. There was much hype when it launched a few years ago now, much lighter in texture and coverage than the foundations I was used to I wasn’t sure, however after playing around with this and learning it applies best using a mixture of hands and my forever favourite Real Techniques buffing brush this has become a winner in my eyes. Sheer to medium coverage, skin is left soft and radiant, now a firm favourite from my stash.

Soleil Tan Du Chanel Bronzing Cream

Amy says – summer in a jar! This smells divine, one of my favourite bronzers as it’s not in
the slightest bit orange and lasts really well on my skin. Creamy smooth it’s no wonder this
has reached a cult status.

Rachel says - This is perfect for a natural looking bronzed face. It’s a cream bronzer, best applied with a foundation buffing brush. It can be built up subtly, so you get that perfect glow to suit your skin tone (it only comes in one colour). The assistant at the beauty counter said she loves using it on holiday - I always cringe at the thought of my pale face on those chilly summer evenings when I’m meant to be looking radiant and bronzed… solution? I think so.

Vitalumiere Compact Douceur Powder Foundation (B20)

Amy says – thanks Rachel for this one! Total impulse buy after Rachel had raved about this to me, I went into town on my lunch after telling myself to keep open minded as a powder foundation can’t be that great can it? Oh boy was I wrong! As soon as I swiped my finger across this creamy smooth powder I knew it had to be mine. I use this after liquid foundation as a finishing touch to my makeup as it makes the skin look absolutely flawless.

Rachel says - If you seek dewy, flawless skin then look no further! Chanel’s Vitalumiere Compact gives my face a radiance that I’ve never been able to achieve with other products. It’s a powder foundation, although it doesn’t give as much coverage as a liquid foundation. I apply a thin layer of liquid foundation before patting the powder all over for a perfect medium coverage - the colour I use is 20 Beige (it also contains SPF 10 - bonus!). I’ll usually apply a matte powder on my t-zone so as to not risk shine where it’s not wanted. Vitalumiere powder foundation stays put all day long and I’ve noticed my skin stays looking radiant from morning until night. When it runs out you can buy a re-fill, which is cheaper than buying the whole compact again. It also comes in matte version if you want less sheen to your makeup.

Perfection Lumiere Liquid Foundation (can’t remember the colour)

Amy says – sorry Chanel but I really didn’t like this one, I like to think it was mainly due to the colour I was matched to. This was one of those times where in the shop it looked fine; get into natural day light and it’s another matter. We are talking major tango face here, not a preferable look for me. Luckily I managed to sell this on eBay as I’d hardly used any, the formula is much thicker in comparison to the Vitalumiere Aqua meaning this foundation offers a higher level coverage. For me this just didn’t work, colour issues aside I think this would work for someone with oilier skin as it did tend to cling to any dry patches I had and was very visible on the skin

Single Powder Eyeshadow no.92 Rose de Mai

Rachel says - This eyeshadow is so pigmented, which makes it extremely easy to apply and a joy to use. I have blue eyes and this pinky / peachy colour really brings them out. I apply the eyeshadow to the crease of my eye, teaming it with black eyeliner on the top lash line. I love this look as it provides a subtle pop of colour that makes my eyes stand out - perfect for a pretty day look.

Poudre Universelle Compacte (B20 Clair)

Rachel says - Time and time again I’ve searched for a pressed powder that’s comparable to Rimmel’s Stay Matte powder… unfortunately for Chanel, it failed. This powder doesn’t give very good ovecrage and I really have to rub my sponge quite vigorously to get a good amount of powder onto my face! The plus point with this is that it has a handy mirror, which is great for on the go - Rimmel, take note!

Poudre Universelle Libre (30 Naturel)

Rachel says - Loose powders are ideal for setting makeup and Chanel’s loose powder does a great job. I can’t say that the product itself sets it apart from any of the other loose powders I’ve tried (a particular favourite of mine is the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil), a slight bonus to Chanel’s product is the poof it comes with. It doesn’t soak up the powder before it’s even touched my face, and I like using a poof rather than a brush as it’s less messy.

Les Beiges (B40)

Rachel says - Les Beiges can be used as an all over powder or as I use it, as a bronzer. It’s part of Chanel’s ‘healthy glow’ range, and I can see why, such a gorgeous colour for me! I always find bronzers are too orange, too shimmery or too dark. Chanel has got it just right in this instance. My face is naturally pale, so bronzing is part of my daily routine and this is perfect for an everyday look, I find it works really well with other Chanel products - the colours and finishes complement each other perfectly. Les Beiges is particularly complementary with Chanel’s powder blushes (mentioned next.)

Joues Contraste Blusher – no.70 Tumulte

Rachel says - Such a pretty pink! You can see in the picture it comes with a mini brush, which is great on the go if you’re lazy like me. You only need one light sweep over the blusher to get a good
amount on the brush. The blusher has a very fine shimmer, which produces a healthy look to the skin rather than too shiny. Chanel’s blusher definitely has staying power - my cheeks are just as rosy after a long day at work. I’d like to try out some other shades of Chanel’s blushers as I get a lot of compliments on this one!

In conclusion our only issue with Chanel products in general is the packaging - it’s huge! Chanel really hogs the space in your makeup bag, not that it’s ever a bad thing to have too much Chanel, however this can be tricky when travelling or you want to take a few items with you in your handbag, other than that their products are utter perfection and a joy to use.

What’s your favourite Chanel product?
