Have you ever come across a product that’s just a bit ‘meh.’ Not overly awful but doesn’t quite excite you in a way you were hoping it would. I’m not even sure what my expectations were of the new Smashbox Contouring Kit, with so much focus on contouring these days and the newly launched Anatsasia Contour Kit everybody wants to get their hands on, was I going to come out looking like Kim K, I hardly think so.
My main reason for disappointment with this product is had I thought about it carefully I probably have all the colours in my kit already. I was expecting some spectacularly different product so I can’t help but feel it was a bit of a waste of money just to have them all in one compact. I also would have liked the highlighter to pack a bit more of a punch. Maybe it’s because I’m so pale it just doesn’t show up enough to justify as a highlighter, for darker skins this may work better.
Big plus points for me are if you don’t already own these colours it’s nice to have them all in a compact and the brush you get with the kit is fab. Perfect for creating chiselled cheek bones easily.
The colours themselves are ok, I find the contour colour comparable to NYX Blush in Taupe, a cool toned grey / brown colour and the bronzer similar to Benefit’s Hoola, maybe slightly warmer. Both good for creating a bronzy contoured look.
Overall a nice little palette, good for travelling and contouringnewbs as this comes with a little guide of what to put where. Just make sure you haven’t got the colours in your stash before purchasing this and bear in mind.
